What is an Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty, also called lipectomy and Tummy Tuck, is a surgery that involves tying the abdominal region muscles and removing excess skin to regain a toned abdomen.
Am I a candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck is ideal for people who have excess skin, loss of muscle tone and stretch marks in the abdominal region. This procedure is suitable for both men and women.
How is an Abdominoplasty done?
The abdominoplasty can be done with general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has been administered, an incision is made, more or less from hip to hip (on the bikini line), in order to suture the abdominal muscles, remove excess skin and make a perfect suture. If the patient decides to have other procedures done (such as liposuction) to accentuate his (her) new waistline, they can be done at the same surgical time of the abdominoplasty.
It is recommended that the patient takes short walks every hour in order to promote healing and have a faster recovery. The use of a girdle and post-surgical massages are essential for patient´s recovery.
